The story behind the song

This song was inspired more by the guitar tuning than anything else. I thought I'd experimented with just about every open tuning within a reasonable proximity to standard. Then one day, my friend Joe Breskin picked up one of his guitars and all these bluesy chords started pouring out. Then he remembered he had changed the D string the day before and it had drifted to a C# overnight. He showed me the magnificent tuning (E, A, C#, G, B, E) and within 24 hours I had written this song! At the time, I was in the rosy throes of a new relationship, which I wrote about here, as well as a light-hearted poke at the new age.

The lyrics

In the wink of an eye there's an egg and it's waiting to hatch
On the brink of a smile, a lover who's finding his match
Well I've heard all about you. I wonder just what sort of catch
You will be if I end up possessing the key to your latch

There's a soul partner waiting for me and she stands by my gate
I've been waiting for decades. I fear that the timing is late
Will we do a slow dance or will hot blooded stuff be our fate
I just don't have a clue. Should I act or react or just wait?

When the tides all rush in and the moon shows through watery skies
And the bells' rusty dewdrops pull all of the salt from my eyes
I remember to breathe while I wait for that golden sunrise
And I know all is well for it's empty before it is wise

There's another great emptiness now and it swallows my fate
In the blink of an eye there's a stargazer trying to relate
As the sweet breath of April puts teardrops and love on my plate
There's a hovering question I ask myself is she my mate?

When the gurus come out and their followers open their eyes
And the stumbling mumbles of mantras splash paint on the skies
When the chorus finds harmony after their thousands of tries
Then the peacock rejoices and peace will be no ones surprise
